First Friday: Village Artists
January 7, 2011. 26 local artists exhibit 250 pieces of unique art for sale. The First Friday series, held the first Friday of every month, highlights an artist or group of artists and light refreshments are served. This month, the gallery features the works of students from Richland Northeast High School. 6pm - 8:45 pm at the Village at Sandhill (next to Panera Bread). Visit website for more info. Arts & Draughts
Friday January 7, 2011 Arts & Draughts is a new series designed to be an interactive party on the first Friday of every month at the Columbia Museum of Art. Enjoy a performance by Devil Music Ensemble, take a unique perspective tour of I Heard a Voice: The Art of Lesley Dill with artist Heidi Darr-Hope and indulge in a beer tasting from the Widmer Brothers Brewery Company. And while you're here, create your own silent film in the photo booth with photographer Jonathan Goley, watch The Power Company's performance of contemporary dance and see new video installations by VJ Patrick Nugent. Youth America Grand Prix Dance Competition
January 7 - 9, 2011 University of South Carolina Department of Theatre and Dance will host some of the Southeast’s most graceful and talented ballet dancers for the Youth America Grand Prix ballet scholarship competition Jan. 7 - 9 at Drayton Hall theatre. For dance students ages 9 – 19, the YAGP awards more than $250,000 annually in scholarships to leading dance schools worldwide. Dancers in three divisions – pre-competition (ages 9 – 11), juniors (12 – 14) and seniors (15 – 19) – will compete for scholarship prizes. The competition includes both classical and contemporary ballet for both solos and ensembles. Tickets are $5 at the door. USC students will be admitted free with a valid student ID. |
17th Annual Central Carolina Food and Wine Festival: Dinner at MoMo's Bistro
Monday, January 10, 2011. The purpose of the Central Carolina Food and Wine Festival is to showcase local gourmet food purveyors and domestic and international wineries while raising money for a good cause. Proceeds from all events support efforts of Central Carolina Community Foundation to award grants to nonprofit organizations in the Midlands. In 16 years the event has raised over $735,000 in support of the Foundation's mission. This month's dinner features the culinary expertise of Executive Chef Andrew White, along with complementary wine paired with each course and a guest speaker provided by Southern Wine & Spirits of South Carolina Inc. Tickets are $100 per person. |

Palmetto Portaits: The State Museum
Last Weekend: Show ends January 9, 2011 Palmetto Portraits: Images by Contemporary South Carolina Photographers holds up a mirror to let South Carolinians see their fellow Palmetto State residents in their everyday environments. Horseback Riding at Saluda Shoals
HORSE TRAIL RIDES Come out to Saluda Shoals Park and enjoy a wonderful walking trail ride through the park. Learn how to horseback ride or simply improve your skills. No previous experience is required. Rides last an hour (including instruction, mounting & dismounting). No double riding is permitted. Riders are required to wear long pants, boots or sturdy lace-up shoes, and helmets which are provided. The St Andrews Womens Club Bridal Showcase
Sunday, January 9, 2011 The St. Andrews Woman's Club Bridal Showcase has provided "wedding bliss" for Midlands-area bridal service providers and community-service organizations for twenty-nine years! The Bridal showcase is a "Win-Win-Win" event! First, area brides and their families are able to comparison shop among many vendors during one afternoon, a huge advantage for wedding planning. Second, local bridal service providers have the opportunity for hands-on contact with nearly 600 brides in one afternoon. The St. Andrews Woman's Club is able to support several local community service organizations with the proceeds from the event. The Bridal Showcase will feature 100+ booths by the premier providers of wedding services in the Midlands, fashion shows at 1:30 and 4:00 PM, and fantastic grand prizes. Held in the Cantey Building at the State Fairgrounds. |
