Cook-out for Kids, an annual BBQ fundraiser sponsored by the Epworth Alumni Association will be held April 14, 2012 on the beautiful campus of Epworth Children's Home. The event features award winning cook teams from around South Carolina. A family event, the day includes a Bake Sale, great eclectic music performed by The Main Street Connection, and a display of 30 beautifully restored A-Model Fords presented by the Palmetto A's, a vintage car club. Chicken and pork BBQ plates are $10 each and whole, cooked Buston Butts sell for $30 each. Pre-orders are preferred, but tickets will be sold the day of the event. Touch a Truck: SC State Farmers Market

Saturday, April 14, 2012 10am - 2pm

A Junior League of Columbia fundraiser and family event, Touch a Truck will be held at the new SC State Farmer's Market. The market will be transformed into a world of big rigs and heavy machinery for young and old alike to see up close! Kids have the opportunity to explore big vehicles like fire trucks, cement trucks, bulldozers and school buses and meet the fine people who build, protect and serve the Midlands.
This community event also features family-friendly entertainment, plus information on healthy eating from the Junior League of Columbia's Kids in the Kitchen.
Mascots, face painting, and other amusements round out the fun. Admission: $6 per person (Children 1 and under are free with a paying adult.) Tickets sold at the event. Visit the

A Week of Remembrance: A Celebration of Jewish Culture

Opera-tunity Foundation and the USC School of Music will present a very special project: A Week of Remembrance....a Celebration of Jewish Culture. The University of South Carolina (USC) Symphony Orchestra and the USC Choirs under the direction of Maestro Donald Portnoy and Larry Wyatt will offer the South Carolina premiere of Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezin and begin a week-long tribute to Jewish culture. They will be joined by The York County Choral Society, David Lowry conductor. This production honors those who were interred in the World War II concentration camp at Terezin, sometimes called by its German name of Theresienstadt.
