SC State Fair New Food Report for 2010
SC State Fair New Food Report for 2010
The 141st SC State Fair officially opens October 13, 2010 at 3p.m. and runs through Sunday October 24. The new food offerings will have fairgoers talking.
Here’s a rundown of some of the new treats in store for guests.
Fried bologna on a stick – The Netterfield Food Court for years has offered fried bologna sandwiches, but this year the crew has added a new twist on an old favorite. Similar to a corn dog, it features a thick Carolina Moon shaped bologna dipped in corn meal batter and deep fried. Add a little ketchup, mustard or hot sauce and you’re ready to go as the addition of the sticks offers the element of portability. Guests like it because they can walk around and eat it. Price $5.
Doughnut burger – Carrousel Barbeque has brought a growling nationwide favorite to the SC State Fair this year, and it’s sure not to disappoint the more ambitious eaters. It features a fresh hamburger patty wrapped in two Krispy Kreme doughnuts and packed with any combination of cheese, bacon, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes and onions. Price $8 each
Fried pickles –For those seeking a vegetable serving, here it is. Dr. Vegetable is making its debut at the fair, and owner Richard Busse is serving up fried pickle spears dipped in a special batter and topped with ranch, cocktail or southwestern sauce. Those seeking more variety can help themselves to a fried vegetable tray of broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini and onion rings. Six pickles will cost you $6 or the vegetable tray goes for $7. And if you’r e ready for dessert try:
Funnel cake sundae – Picture a classic funnel cake. Then throw in a generous helping of ice cream topped w/chocolate and cherry. That what stand manager Ryan Collmer did as he conceived the sugary treat and SC State Fair guests will be the first to sample the results. “It’s always good when you put cake and ice cream together so why not,” Collmer said. Cost $6.
Fried butter – This one’s actually not what it sounds like, but more of cinnamon roll burst. The folks at Carrousel Candy stand have borrowed a menu item that was first unveiled at the Texas State Fair. The treat features an ounce of frozen butter attached to a toothpick, dipped in batter and deep fried with brown sugar and cinnamon. Cost four servings for $4.
