Animal Grossology Family Camp-In: South Carolina State Museum
Friday, April 1, 2011 Enjoy the “stinkiest, slimiest, grossest” sleepover ever!! First, campers will enjoy a screening of the original blockbuster movie "Shrek". Campers may explore the museum galleries before and after the movie screening. A detailed schedule of activities will be provided at check-in. FOOD A light pizza snack will be served Friday evening. Tartan Day South: Historic Columbia Speedway
Friday April 1, 2011 - Saturday April 2, 2011 Friday Night kicks off at 6pm with a reception followed by a benefit dinner, whiskey tasting, auction & kilted fashion show at the Wingate by Wyndham, our host hotel. Saturday is a full day of activities taking place at the Historic Columbia Speedway in Cayce, SC. Featuring pipe bands, athletics, dancing, herding, falconry, storytelling, clan/society area, Celtic marketplace, British auto show, kids activities along with specialty foods and drink. A special highlight of the day will be the introduction of the newly formed ORDER OF THE FLAMING CABER. Columbia International Festival: SC State Fairgrounds
Saturday, April 2, 2011 - Sunday, April 3, 2011 The Columbia International Festival showcases the music, culture, food, and performing arts of the various cultures, nationalities, races, and language groups represented in South Carolina. The event brings all of the area's international communities together to build better community/race relations between various ethnic/cultural/language groups and with the South Carolina community at large. “Let’s Move!” Kids Day Columbia! At Finlay Park
Friday, April 2, 2011 - Saturday, April 3, 2011 The City of Columbia, Select Health of South Carolina and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands have teamed up to provide a day of fun and fitness at “Let’s Move!” Kids Day Columbia! at Finlay Park, 930 Laurel Street. The 19th annual event will promote First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” initiative to combat childhood obesity, and promote making healthy choices, improving food quality in schools and physical activity. The festivities will kickoff on Friday at 6 p.m. with a family-friendly movie, amusements rides and food under the stars at Finlay Park. Admission and parking are FREE. Urban Tour: Downtown Main Street Columbia
Thursday April 7, 2011 We're usually in such a dad-blasted hurry to get from Point A to Point B, we seldom look at what's around us. Do you really know what is downtown these days? Well, Urban Tour is a free event showcasing all that Columbia's downtown has to offer. The self-guided walking tour includes special offers and give-aways from retailers, live entertainment such as street performers and musicians, local artists, a glimpse into downtown living, stories behind some of our historic buildings, food and discounted drinks all along the way. To help make it more fun and less hassle, free shuttle and horse carriage rides are available from 5:30p.m-9:00p.m to assist pedestrians.
