Located just west of the heart of Columbia, the Vista is a thriving area for nightlife and shopping, but how did it grow to be the entertainment district it is today? This tour will focus on the history of the Vista as well as the architecture of its buildings. Learn about the area as we stroll down Gervais St, stopping at a few local watering spots along the way for happy hour specials and conclude the tour with appetizers. Saturday, September 19. All Aboard! Hurry! Only two Saturdays left in the South Carolina Railroad Museum's Fall Train Rides program. Located at 110 Industrial Park Rd in Winnsboro SC, just a short drive up I-77. The train ride is a 10 mile round trip on the Museum's railroad lasting about 1 hour. Rides at 10 1, 2:30. Sunday, September 20. Ross Holmes Band! Jazz at the Village Fall Concert Series continues this Sunday with the Ross Holmes Band. Ross Holmes Band plays a wide variety of danceable music from Big Band, Beach Classics, Standards, Rhythm & Blues to Party Music and a whole lot more in between. Ross and his band offer one of the finest and most versatile repertoires around, and are noted for their ability to entertain groups of all ages. 2-4 pm. Thursday, September 24. Art with a Heart. Wind down your Thursday evening with tremendous artwork as well as dessert and drinks on the rooftop of the Meridian Building (1320 Main Street). The office of Nelson, Mullins, Riley and Scarborough will host this annual benefit art show which features the work of local artists. A portion of all proceeds benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Columbia’s cornerstone programs. The Melting Pot will be serving up some scrumptious complimentary desserts on the rooftop throughout the evening with an accompaniment of soothing acoustic music. 5:30-9:30 pm.
