This Week. I Heard a Voice: The Art of Lesley Dill.
The Columbia Museum of Art presents an exhibition of contemporary American artist Lesley Dill that focuses on her most recent large-scale theatrical work. This is the first retrospective exhibition of the artist of this scale. For the last twenty years, Dill has been a sculptor, photographer, printmaker and performance artist, all while consistently exploring the human form, language, sensory experience and their interactions. Sunday, October 17. Arboretum.
Located east of Shandon in the Sherwood Forest neighborhood is a seven-acre tract with a long looping trail which makes navigating the USC Belser Arboretum a breeze. The wooden chip path crosses over a stream by waterfalls, and to a lovely Zen garden. Volunteers have put up dozens and dozens of unobtrusive tags and plaques explaining it all. On the third Sunday of every month, it opens its doors to the public for three hours. What a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon! Visit the Arboretum for additional information. |

Thursday, October 21. 5 Points Celebrates Hootie & the Blowfish!
The Five Points Association is hosting a major event to honor Hootie and the Blowfish and their impact on Five Points, the 90's music scene and the city of Columbia. Come out for the unveiling of a major piece of public art to honor them permanently along with a free tribute concert featuring The Blue Dogs, Cravin Melon, Patrick Davis, Treadmill Trackstar, Tootie and the Jones, Danielle Howle and the Soul Mites.
