This Week. I Heard a Voice: The Art of Lesley Dill. The Columbia Museum of Art presents an exhibition of contemporary American artist Lesley Dill that focuses on her most recent large-scale theatrical work. This is the first retrospective exhibition of the artist of this scale. For the last twenty years, Dill has been a sculptor, photographer, printmaker and performance artist, all while consistently exploring the human form, language, sensory experience and their interactions. Or play a harpsichord and sit at the grand banquet table in the castle of Beauty and the Beast. Try on Cinderella’s glass slipper or make shoes like the Elves and the Shoemaker. Friday, October 15. Fall Main Street Marketplace. The Main Street Marketplace is an open-air market featuring fresh produce, baked goods, photography, books, local art, unique gifts, handmade crafts, entertainment and much more. Saturday, October 16-Sunday, October 17. Dog'Tober Fest. Fun for the whole family including Fido! There will be a free Rabies clinic, a Howlerween Contest, Ball Wurf (German Ball Toss Game), a hot dog eating contest, professional pet photos, games, food, entertainment, and pet resource information!!! Saturday, October 16. 9th Annual RIDN 4 RNLD. Rev up your engines for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Columbia’s 9th Annual RIDN 4 RNLD Motorcycle Charity Ride!! Join us at Jack’s Custom Cycles in Lexington (1500 W. Main Street) for drinks, games, food and fun! Not a rider? Saturday, October 16. Back to the Beach Series: Capital City Shag Club! Join the Village at Sandhill to shag the night away as we take it back to the beach this fall. Sunday, October 17. Arboretum. Located east of Shandon in the Sherwood Forest neighborhood is a seven-acre tract with a long looping trail which makes navigating the USC Belser Arboretum a breeze. The wooden chip path crosses over a stream by waterfalls, and to a lovely Zen garden. Volunteers have put up dozens and dozens of unobtrusive tags and plaques explaining it all. On the third Sunday of every month, it opens its doors to the public for three hours. What a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon! Visit the Arboretum for additional information.

Tuesday, October 19. Tiny Tot Tuesday: Silly Scarecrows. Toddlers can view the "Scarecrows in the Garden" exhibit, make a mini Jack-O-Lantern, and participate in a flying broom relay. Participants will also search for Sneaky Steve and enjoy a scavenger hunt. Visit the Historic Columbia Foundation for more information.

Thursday, October 21. 5 Points Celebrates Hootie & the Blowfish! The Five Points Association is hosting a major event to honor Hootie and the Blowfish and their impact on Five Points, the 90's music scene and the city of Columbia. Come out for the unveiling of a major piece of public art to honor them permanently along with a free tribute concert featuring The Blue Dogs, Cravin Melon, Patrick Davis, Treadmill Trackstar, Tootie and the Jones, Danielle Howle and the Soul Mites. All 4 Hootie band members will be in attendance for the press conference on Santee and the tribute concert afterwards!! Visit 5 Points for more information.
